Jace Hudson of Pantego TX., is a famed painter and airbrush artist in the street bike scene who made the switch to doing custom work in the lowrider scene. Currently Jace is the airbrush artist and custom painter at Empire Customs that is owned by Sam Torres. “For the most part, I do every aspect of a custom paintjob. I started off sanding cars at my dads shop in the 90s” states Jace. Most of the paint skills that Jace had learned came from watching others work. “I saw someone do this and I tried it, then saw someone do that and I tried it and eventually it all came together.”
Jace worked in several collision centers and dealerships before going to custom motorcycles. “Custom motorcycles got real big in 2003 and it worked out real good for me.” Jace did every form of custom paintwork from graphics to pinstripping, but it wasn’t until 2007 that he started airbrushing.
“The best part about the lowrider scene compared to the custom motorcycle scene is that there is a lot more artistic freedom.” Jace has found out that as an artist in the lowrider scene there are bigger challenges of coming up with unique ideas to represent what the customer wants. “In the motorcycle scene customers usually want some flames on it, some skulls or some tribal graphics on their bike.” The Lowrider scene is far from having the typical paintjob, as customers would like the car to represent them and their lifestyle. “You are really being challenged in this industry and that’s the best part about it as an artist,” proudly explains Jace.
" “I saw someone do this and I tried it, then saw someone do that and I tried it and eventually it all came together.”

“As far as my artwork is concerned, if it can create opportunity and stability in my life I would be thankful for that.” Jace also hopes that at some point he would have develop his skills enough to be able to teach art. “I want to do more than just airbrushing, whether it be acrylic, sculpting, oil painting or whatever it maybe.” He has thought about going back to school in order to be able to do that one day. “I definitely don’t want to paint cars the rest of my life.”
Jace would like to thank Gary Queen, who got him into the airbrushing and custom painting business and also Sam Torres for giving him a chance to get his name out there in the lowrider scene. v
