For the first time ever, Lowrider Arte successfully put up its first art showcase featuring the work of more than 30 artists. Included in the event-part of Lowrider Magazine's Super Show in Las Vegas, Nevada-were special appearances by famed airbrush artist Fonzy, plus Gerald Mendez, "Shadow," Jose Lopez, Joe Ruiz and the "Candy Man."
Located in the center hall of the main auditorium at Cashman Field Center, the Arte exhibit was a full-on extravaganza of art from all disciplines. From black and white portraiture to metal tapestry, the booth had something for everyone. Pony shoes were Victor Sepulveda's leather canvas for artwork so clean that we had to turn down offers on the purchase of the shoes. Also included on the south side of the exhibit were other shoes painted by Gerald and Maxx. A custom "cotton canvas" from Bighouse Clothing featured Fonzy's work on the highly praised line.
With so many people trying to get a glimpse of their favorite piece, traffic built quickly around the display and it was only a matter of minutes before security had to guide the flow of traffic to ease the congestion. In all, the event was held in high praise and is just the beginning of what we have in store for Arte. We'd like to thank everyone involved for their support and tell you to be on the lookout for next year's Tour as the Arte exhibit is sure to grow and offer more of what we all like to see-inspiring works from true artists at the heart of the Lowrider Movement.
